Welcome
to Miserly Moms.
It is my goal to
help
people
(especially moms) get the tools that their family needs to spend more
time together. Through the use of the tips I share and the other
resources recommended, I hope that many people will be able to afford
to cut back on working hours or quit altogether in order to spend more
time with their family. I
had to learn quickly how to stretch a dollar-especially in our grocery
budget. I had little training in frugality, having grown up in an
affluent surrounding. We didn't sell our home or cars. Our household
expenses remained the same (except those for childcare). I did my
homework, learned from trial and error and the experiences of other
frugal moms who had gone before me. Jonni McCoy To read the entire article by Jonni on their family's Odyssey Into Frugality, click here Back to School Shopping Tips Look for tax-free days. Some states offer special shopping days in the summer. This can save you up to 9%! Buy mix and match pieces instead so that you can make many outfits out of a few pieces. Check your on-hand clothes and supplies. Don't replace what is still usable. Just because it's back to school does not mean they have to have a new wardrobe. For fast growing kids, buy one size too large and cuff the pants or sleeves. Visit resale shops. Plan out what you are going to need to avoid impulse shopping. Watch what is on sale. Every type of store is featuring a sale item or two for dirty cheap. Stock up on those. Avoid going to the mall to get everything...you will spend hundreds of dollars extra. Plan your trips to these sale stores and drop in while you are running other errands. This will save on gas. Save on gasoline by using a gasoline rebate card. I use the Shell Platinum MasterCard which pays me 5% on my gasoline. That's 20 cents per gallon! I also get a 1% rebate on all non-gasoline items I purchase. Looking for Money Saving Ideas? Visit our bookstore for these books and other practical ideas (click here) I love old
cookbooks....especially the ones from
the 1800's, The Depression and WWII. I am always scouring old
bookstores looking for them. And now you can read them for free! A
reader sent in a web address for the Michigan State University project
called Feeding America which has all of the pages for these great old
books scanned and available on their site!
